Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory disease with an unclear cause. It is thought that part of the cause may be related to a genetic predisposition and response to the fungus Malassezia. Inflammatory changes usually occur on the scalp (often interpreted as “dandruff” or psoriasis). They may appear on the face (especially around the eyebrows or cheeks). Men may have inflammatory changes on the skin of the chest. The treatment is chronic and it is usually preferable to use appropriate preparations prophylactically during the remission period.
